Abstract
:
Introduction: Rapidly aging populations and changes in care delivery models highlight the importance of effective manpower forecasting and the need for manpower planning. There are substantial differences in the overall number of physicians (nurses, allied health personal, and other health care providers) per population by countries. Accurate estimates for human resource requirements rely on high-level, well informed, coordinated and complex data. Aims and objectives: 1. Revise the previously developed healthcare manpower planning model. 2. Apply the revised model to healthcare manpower projections by sector and setting for doctors, dentists, Chinese medicine practitioners, nurses, pharmacists and other health care. 3. Quantify the healthcare professional supply demand gap. 4. Suggest ways to implement the manpower planning and projection framework on an ongoing basis. Programme plan: 1. Update the systematic review of local and international manpower planning and projection practice. 2. Consider the feedback received from the ‘Steering Committee’ members and stakeholder groups, changing care delivery and data structures, revise the projection model Primary deliverables 1. Suggest ways/ strategies to implement a manpower planning and forecasting framework in HK. 2. Evaluate the supply and demand gap.
